Pale Blue Dot
— origins —O
It all started with a dream that awoke me from a deep sleep: In it a 100-foot tall woman stepped over forests with butterflies circling her large blonde afro, animals ran before her playfully and birds darted around her grass-covered torso. Intuitively I knew it was Mother Nature and she was on the move. But what did it all mean and how was I going to bring this vision to the screen?
Merel Moistra, Ron Goudie and I were looking for a project to work on together and I told them what I had seen. I gave each of them the outline of an archetype character I would like them to play and who would inhabit the movie world we would create. With this I gave them nine topics and asked them each to write a song from their own character's unique perspective. A third character would inhabit this world and sing the chorus, bringing them all together - it would be the voice of Mother Nature.
Merel ran with the idea inspired by one of our favorite visionary/scientists, Carl Sagan. He spoke of our Earth being a PALE BLUE DOT when seen from the outer reaches of space and she was off to the races. With the delivery of her phenomenal demo song I started to flesh out the story, recruit crew members and we quickly propelled ourselves into the song and film production —
"Once we lose our fear of being tiny, we find ourselves on the threshold of a vast and awesome universe..."
We want to thank all of our fans: present and future, as well as our brothers, sisters, relatives and animal-friends who share this vast, wonderful planet with us. We hope that our little film does you all some justice and brings us all closer. These contributors represent a few of the professional (and educational) firms that have already stepped up to see that our vision makes it to the silver screen. Thank you, thank you.
